It is very well said that experience is the best teacher. Superstar Mammootty has emerged again as the most successful star of Malayalam in 2009 with a memorable run of eight releases in 2009!
While Pazhassi Raja, Palery Manickam and Chattambinaadu are declared year-end hits in Mollywood, Kutty Shranku went to claim international laurels at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa and will have a commercial release soon.
2009 also added more feathers to Mammootty's cap. Success before the camera is not enough; Mammootty launched his own production house to produce and distribute films. Another non-filmi honour for Mammootty is being appointed brand ambassador by the Kerala Volleyball Association.
2009 also gave him the much-applauded Kutty Shranku with Shaji N. Karun, which is in the fray for best actor and best film. The movie is reported to have one of his best performances ever.
2009 also saw the release of Pazhassi Raja, the mega blockbuster of the year, with Mammootty in a solid legendary role. Many will remember that it was a similar role in Oru Vadakkan Veragatha with the same team, which earned him his first National Award.
Other Mammootty's hits in 2009 are Loudspeaker and Renjith's Palery Manickyam - Oru Pathira Kolapathakinte Katha (which had the star in a triple role).
Will Mammuka get his fourth National Award for a 2009 film? We sure hope so!
