The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has decided to earmark Rs. 5 lakhs for "pain and palliative care" for film workers. The decision was taken at the annual general body meeting of AMMA. Actors Innocent and Mohanlal, who formally assumed charge as President and General Secretary respectively of the association, told reporters.
The meeting also decided to extend 'Kaineettam', a project that has been successfully implemented for helping artists in distress, to 100 more artists. "We have decided to extend financial help to actors and their close relatives requiring heart surgery," Innocent said, adding that the association has decided to organize a mega show every year for collecting funds.
Earlier, the meeting condoled the death of film scriptwriter and director Lohitadas, who passed away on Sunday. The proceedings of the meeting were completed quickly in view of the demise of Lohitadas.
The new office bearers, including Innocent and Mohanlal who were elected unanimously for 2009-12, assumed charge. This is the fourth consecutive term that Innocent and Mohanlal have been elected to their respective posts.
