Fousia Hassan, one of the Maldivian nationals accused in the controversial Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) spy case in the 1990s and later acquitted after the case fizzled out, is reportedly making a film on the atrocities meted out to her by the police during the investigation.
A local TV channel has reported that Fousia visited Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from May 28 to June 7 in connection with the making of a tele film about her torture in police custody. However, top Intelligence officials, who confirmed her visit, denied that she had acted in a tele film.
Meanwhile, Joseph, the director of the film, said that the film had nothing to do with the spy scandal. Rather, the film was titled Those Days and has as its theme a love story. Fousia visited the shooting location, but it was not in connection with the making of the tele film, he said.
The film, which has been shot in Kerala for a week at locations including the state-owned Chitranjali Studio and St Mary’s HSS, Vettucaud, has two Maldivian girls, Zeenath and Amira, playing the lead roles. The Tele film is shot under the banner of Noor Movies.
Fousia, accused of extracting top secret informations from ISRO scientists, was arrested in October 1994. After generating a lot controversy and attracting media attention, the case was dismissed by the Supreme Court for lack of evidence. Fousia was released in December 1997.
