Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi has finally broken his silence. On Monday, he told reporters that he will launch his much-awaited political party “before the end of this month” and will make an announcement “in a couple of days”. Meanwhile, sources said that he would launch his party either on August 22 (his birthday), or August 26 at temple town Tirupati.
As a first step before the launch, Chiranjeevi inaugurated his party office at the crack of dawn on Monday. The office is located in the upmarket Banjara Hills area in Hyderabad. "Wait for a couple of days more and I will reveal all details. I am also eager to go to people," the 53-year-old film star said after inaugurating a new building which is expected to serve as his party's headquarters.
About 5 lakh people are expected to attend the massive public meeting in Tirupati in which Chiranjeevi is likely to announce the name of the party, as well as its programme and ideology. Allu Arvind recently visited Tirupati to choose a venue for the public meeting. After formally launching the party, Chiranjeevi is likely to undertake a state-wide tour on a special chariot.
In the last three months, Chiranjeevi’s brothers and aides have been holding meetings with trade unions, women, IT professionals and other sections of society at different places in the state to prepare the ground for the party’s launch. People are drawing a parallel with thespian N.T. Rama Rao’s political entry in 1982. He came to power within nine months of launching the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
