We have a list of actors who migrated from Mollywood to Kollywood. Prithviraj, Narain, Bhavana, Asin, Nayantara, Karthika, Padmapriya, Meera Jasmine and Bhama are recent entries in the list. It is not the actors alone who are moving their base to Tamil, but also directors like Priyadarshan, Jayaraj, Lal Jose, Vinayan, Shaji Kailash and Fazil, who are now focusing more on Tamil than ever before.
Priyadarshan is now busy directing Kancheepuram, based on the lives of weavers from the town of Kancheepuram, which is said to be his dream project. Priyadarshan is making this film for his own satisfaction; Kancheepuram will be free of any commercial ingredients. Versatile actor Prakashraj is playing the key role in this film which is expected to be completed by the end of September. Priyadarshan is also producing another film that Fazil is directing in Tamil, starring Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. This untitled movie will be simultaneously made in Tamil and Malayalam.
Vinayan has already established himself well with Kasi, En Mana Vaanil and the dubbed version of Adbhutadweep in Kollywood. Now, he is making a Tamil film named Naalai Namathey. Shooting of this movie is progressing in Coimbatore. This movie features two newcomers, Ram and Tanusha, in the lead.
Director Jayaraj has stepped into Tamil industry with his latest release Sila Nerangalil (February), starring Vincent Asokan and Navya Nair in the main roles. After this decent thriller that reached number two in the Tamil film charts in its first week of release, Jayaraj is said to have received more offers in Tamil.
Lal Jose is busy with the remake of some of his recent Malayalam films: Classmates and Meesa Madhavan. The Tamil remake of Classmates will start shooting this month. The Tamil version is titled Ninaithaale Iniykkum, starring Prithviraj and Priya Mani in the lead roles. Lal Jose's super hit Meesa Madhavan is also in the list of remakes and will be directed by Prabhakaran with Karthik and Nayantara in the lead.
Director Shaji Kailash is also engaged with his Tamil remake of Chintamani Kola Case as Ellaam Avan Seyal. The movie has newcomers R.K. and Bhama in the lead and veterans like Nasser, Aashish Vidyarthi, Vadivelu, Manivannan and Vijayakumar in important roles. He is now in search of a gang of menacing girls to play the role of ‘Mirchi Girls’ for the movie.
