Mohanlal, the biggest star in Kerala along with Mammootty, celebrates his 48th birthday today (Wednesday, May 21) on location of his new film Madambi. Happy birthday, Laletta!

In an informal birthday celebration in the afternoon, Mohanlal will cut a huge cake and will participate in a traditional vegetarian sadya with three payasams. Fans of the superstar will also be coming to wish him and take part in the grand sadya.

All celebrations are held under of the supervision of Lal’s right-hand man Antony Perumbavoor, a few members from his fan clubs, B. Unnikrishnan (writer-director of the film) and producer B.C. Joshy. However, the star will be busy shooting the whole day with Innocent, Kavya Madhavan, Ajmal and the rest of the crew.

One significant point in this birthday is that today, Mohanlal is shooting in his favourite location at Varikkaseri Mana, near Ottapalam, which was the house of Manglassery Neelakandan, the feudal landlord in Devasuram, one of the most memorable characters the actor has ever enacted.

Mohanlal was born to Viswanathan Nair and Santhakumari in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala in 1960. Starting his career with a classic villains' role, he has now become an outstanding actor of Malayalam. He has reached this position with his hard work and devotion to the movie industry.

He has won the National award for the best actor (twice) for his roles in Bharatham (1991) and Vaanaprastham (1999). He has also won the Kerala State Award for Best Actor four times for his roles in T.P. Balagopalan M.A. (1986), Ulladakkam (1991), Kilukkam (1988), Abhimanyu, Kala Pani (1996), Sphadikam (1995) Vaanaprastham (1999). Mohanlal was awarded the Nation's civilian honour of Padmashree in 2001.
