Classical dancer-actor Vineeth, who has acted in several popular films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, celebrates his birthday on August 23. Galatta.com wishes happy birthday and all the best to Vineeth.
Vineeth, nephew of the famous Travancore sisters and cousin of National Award-winning actress Shobana, an acknowledged exponent of Bharathanatyam, has acted in more than 90 movies, mainly for dance-oriented roles in a career spanning 23 years.
Vineeth started learning classical dance in his childhood. It was his aunty, Padmini, one of the famous Travancore sisters, who persuaded his parents to send him to dancing school. Later in school, he became the first person in Kerala to win the Kalaprathiba title four times at the State Youth Festival.
Vineeth entered films with I.V. Sasi's Edanilagal in 1985. It was however with his second film Nakakshathangal in 1986 that he caught the public eye. Nakakshathangal, introducing three debutants, was a super hit and won a lasting impression among Malayalam film viewers.
Although he has later done several memorable movies like Idanazhiyil Oru Kaalocha, Rithubhedam, Amruthamgamaya, Aaranyakam, Sargam, Ghazal, Kabooliwala, Parinayam, etc., his career did not zoom. In Tamil, Vineeth managed to earn a place for himself with movies like Avarampoo, Kaathal Desam, Priyamana Thozhi, Bokshu - The Myth and others. His dancing skills were prominently displayed in several movies like Mazhavillu, Chandramukhi and latest Uliyin Osai, written by the legendary Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
In spite of his fame in films, he still considers dance as his first love, undergoing advanced training in Bharathanatyam and participating in several dance programmes all over the world. Vineeth still learns Bharathanatyam from Dr. Padma Subramaniyam. He recently revealed that he would start a dance school in future. In 2004, he married Priscilla Menon and lives in Chennai.
