Actor-dancer Vineeth, hero of latest Tamil movie Uliyin Osai, became a little nostalgic during a press conference organized to announce 'Maya Ravan 2008', a dance-drama by actress Shobana. He recalled that it was his aunty, Padmini, one of the famous Travancore sisters, who persuaded his parents to send him to dancing school. That was a stepping stone for him.
Vineeth still remembers that date, January 25, 1974. He was attending a relative's wedding where a music programme was going on. He was running around and playing with his cousins. "Suddenly Pappy aunty pulled me and asked me to wear some dance costumes and asked me to dance for a song. With a kid's enthusiasm, I danced for the song. Watching me dance, she insisted that I be put under a dance teacher. My dad agreed and that was how I started learning dance. Today, dance is my passion and profession," Vineeth said.
Later in school, he became the first person in Kerala to win the Kalaprathiba title four times at the State Youth Festival. When he entered films with Edanilagal in 1985 and again in Nakakshathangal in 1986, his dancing skills were prominently displayed. Vineeth thanks the Travancore sisters who are famous for their legendary performances.
The actor also disclosed that they were disciplined, punctual and involved in their work. “After growing up, I was awestruck to see aunty’s punctuality and her involvement, not only in dance, but in whatever she did," he said.
