It was a unique get-together for film-lovers in Kochi, as senior actors Sukumari and Manorama came together to revive memories of their golden past. In the grand function held at Bharat Tourist Home, Kochi, organised by Ernakulam Press Club on Thursday, Tamil veteran actor Manorama presented the P.S. John endowment award to veteran actress Sukumari for her outstanding contributions to the Malayalam film industry. The award consists of a purse of Rs. 10,001, citation and plaque.
After presenting the award, Manorama termed the occasion, “one of the best moments in my life” and said that Sukumari epitomises motherhood and love. “I am a huge fan of Sukumari chechi. She is my sister. I am short of words when asked to describe my feelings for her. Acting is a passion for her. She cannot live without acting. Everyone in the industry wants her to act in their movies,” Manorama said.
In her reply after receiving the award, Sukumari said that her greatest wish is to keep on acting. “I have acted with everyone during the last 56 years of my career in the film industry. I got the opportunity to even act with actor Sukumaran’s son Prithviraj. I would love to even act with the children of actors of this generation.”
Director Sibi Malayil, provided with an occasion to share his memories of association with Sukumari, said, “She is like my mother. I have always seen her ready to help others in shooting locales. She is a big support for all of us in the industry.”
