Renowned Malayalam director Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Oru Pennum Randanum, based on four short stories of famous writer Thakazhi, was adjudged the best feature film in the Kerala State Film awards 2008. Adoor Gopalakrishnan also bagged the best director and script writer awards for the same film. T.V. Chandran's Bhoomi Malayalam bagged the second best film award.
State Minister for Education and Culture M.A. Baby announced the awards at a press meet at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday along with Jury Chairman Girish Kasaravalli. The best film award carries a prize money of Rs. 2 lakh, while the best director will get Rs. 1 lakh and a citation.
Actor-director-producer Lal won the best actor award for his role as a policeman in Thalapavu. Priyanka was selected for best actress for her role in Vilapangalkapuram. Aryadan Shoukat was selected as the best story writer for his work in Vilapangalkapuram. Shanker Mahadevan was adjudged the best male playback singer, while Manjeri won the best female playback singer award.
The musical honours went to O.N.V. Kurup for lyrics and M. Jayachandran for music direction. Sathyan Anthicaud’s film Innathe Chinthavishayam bagged the best popular film award. Anoop Menon and Praveena were declared the best supporting actors. Niveditha, who acted in Veruthe Oru Bharya, was the best child artiste.
