In a major step in the history of trade unions in Kerala, the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the oldest trade union in India, is all set to hoist a red flag in Mollywood by formally launching its wing in the Malayalam film industry! Notably, Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA), a confederation of 11 trade unions working in the industry, will have affiliation with the AITUC.
MACTA secretary Vinayan said that the general body meeting of MACTA decided on Monday to affiliate with AITUC. The unanimous decision was conveyed to AITUC state leadership. What has caused MACTA to take such a decision was the strong support rendered to it by the AITUC in its hour of crisis, Vinayan added.
"The union was very helpful to us ever since the split of MACTA. The protest marches organised by MACTA last week to the shooting locations at Ottappalam and Thanneermukkam had the support of AITUC. Union leader P. Thilothaman MLA led the march at Thanneermukkam from the front.
The request for MACTA's affiliation will be discussed by the AITUC state council," Vinayan said. The AITUC state council will meet in a few days.
