Mamta Mohandas, four years old in the film industry with a list of successful Telugu films to her credit, is still in her nascent stage in Kollywood with just two Tamil releases: Sivappathigaram and Guru En Aalu. But she says she has no fears that she has lost out in the race. She would much rather not do a film than do one in which her performance is restricted to sitting pretty.
“I’ve had just two releases in Tamil, but I’m completely happy with that. I did get a lot of offers after Sivappathigaram, but none were exciting. I didn’t want to waste my time playing the hero’s arm candy. So, I shifted my focus to Telugu and Malayalam, where I got meaningful roles. But I have no regrets as I’m now back with Guru En Aalu,” she asserts.
Off screen, Mamta is a hard core speedomaniac! “Yes. I wanted to buy a 1000 CC bike when I was in my teens, but my dad bought me a puny geared scooter! That didn’t stop me from speeding and as the rhyme goes, ‘Mamta had a great fall!’ I’ll buy that 1000 CC bike some day. I was recently at the F1 finals in Bahrain and am so happy to have rubbed shoulders with racers like Alonso and Trulli,” she gushes. Speed thrills, but better watch out, dear lady!
