Mohanlal has won the Best Actor award for his roles in Pakal Nakshathrangal and Kurukshetra in the Atlas Film Critics' Award 2008, instituted by the Kerala Film Critics Association. Sukumari has been adjudged the best actress for her performance in Mizhikal Sakshi. The awards were announced in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

Madhupal has won the best director award. Thalapavu (directed by Madhupal) and Thirakatha (directed by Renjith) have shared the award for the best cinema. Kurukshetra (directed by Major Ravi) has been adjudged the second best film and Twenty:20, the most popular film. The ‘Chalachitra Retnam’ honour will be conferred on T.E. Vasudevan for his contributions to Malayalam cinema.

The other winners are Renjith (second best actor for Gulmohar), Priyanka (second best actress for Vilapangalkappuram), child artistes Baby Nayanthara (Swarnam), Baby Ahana (Pachamara Thanalil), Baby Dia (Thavalam), debutante artiste Shilpa Bala (Orkkuka Vallapozhum), debut director Sohanlal (Orkkuka Vallapozhum) and Hari Narayanan (Nanthuni). Aryadan Shoukath (Vilapangalkappuram) has been adjudged the best story writer. The producers of the best film will be given a purse of Rs. 50,000 each and a citation. The prize money for the best director will be Rs. 25,000.
