Education and Culture Minister M.A. Baby told the Assembly on Wednesday that the State government is working on a proposal to set up a permanent venue for conducting the annual International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Responding to a calling attention motion from P.C. Vishnunath (Congress), the Minister said that a government-appointed committee headed by director Adoor Gopalakrishnan had recently submitted its report in this regard. The government would decide on the matter after discussions.
It was also proposed to start Kerala Film Institute, a video park and film archive by Kerala Chalachithra Academy, he said. The government would also consider this taking into account the state's financial position, the demand for increasing the subsidy of four lakhs given by Chalachitra Academy for Malayalam films produced in state-owned Chitranjali studio.
Extending tax concession to multiplex cinema halls that exhibits good and art cinema also would be looked into, he said replying to the calling attention notice of Congress MLA P.C. Vishnunadh.
