Playing the same role thrice!

Playing the same role thrice!
Baiju NT [August 5, 2008, 5:41:22 PM]

In fact, Meena is very special. She still stars alongside many frontline actors in prominent roles, while many of her contemporary heroines now play mothers or sisters today! How many actresses got the chance to play the same role thrice? Perhaps there may be no one except Meena, who essayed the same role in Kadha Parayumbol opposite Sreenivasan, Kuselan opposite Pasupathy and Kathanayukudu opposite Jagapathy Babu.

"It was a beautiful character and I didn't mind doing it again because it is one of its kind. Nobody gets to play this kind of a character again and again. Another thing which makes me happy is that nobody could replace me," Meena says.

Of course, it is a tough task to enact a character in three different languages. But Meena says that language had never been a problem since she is fluent in all the three. She has dubbed in Tamil and Telugu but not in Malayalam. "Actually, I was asked to do it in Kannada too, but I did not have dates for it," she added.

Talking about the three versions of the film, Meena said, "Kadha Parayumbol was a typical Malayalam movie, subtle and realistic. In Tamil and Telugu, we can't have that much realism because people expect something more especially when Rajni Sir is there. So there are slight changes. It's a little loud with a little masala thrown in though the content is the same."

Meena's acting career dates back to the 1984 movie Anbulla Rajinikanth, in which Rajinikanth played 'Rajni Uncle' for Meena. She then went on to play heroine for Rajinikanth in Ejamaan, Veera and Muthu. Meena is also the only leading female star to act with Rajni in six movies.

However, if you ask the question about her acting experience with Rajinikanth in Kuselan, Meena surprisingly has an answer different from the usual one!  She says: "I don't how to explain. I am not paired opposite Rajni Sir in Kuselan. It was different in Kuselan. I am like his typical fan in the film. It's funny and different. I have known him since my childhood though I haven't worked with him for quite some time. But we keep do keep meeting each other at some function or the other."

It is a peak time for Meena, who is all set to regain her lost glory in the industry today! Kadha Parayumbol, Kuselan and Kathanayukudu can definitely be considered as the landmarks to begin her second innings in her career. All the best Meena!
