Noted film director Shyamaprasad, one among few directors in Malayalam who believe in making good cinema, has directed only three Malayalam movies so far in his career spanning nearly a decade; Agnisakshi (1998), Akale (2004) and Ore Kadal (2007). All three were brilliant and well known as emotionally charged films based on human relationship.
Agnisakshi and Akale had been adjudged the best regional cinema films of the nation in 1998 and 2004. These films also received as many as nine state awards in all major technical categories including the Best Director. His last venture Ore Kadal (The Sea Within), which was chosen as the inaugural film of the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India 2007, recently won the audience award in Germany at Bollywood and Beyond film festival.
Now, the director is all set to make another attempt titled Rithu which will feature young star Prithviraj in the lead. But this time, the director is trying for a change of style, attempting a film for the youth. As a change from his usual films which feature a few characters, this movie will have a lot of supporting characters.
It is learned that Rithu will be a movie about youngsters, but it is not clear whether the director is going for a commercial film! Rithu is scheduled to start its shoot by the mid of October. It is a second movie for Prithviraj who had early worked with the director in the movie Akale, released four years ago.
