Art film director M.P. Sukumaran Nair’s new flick Smarakashilakal, starring Malayalam comedy king Jagathy Sreekumar in the lead after a long time, has started its shoot at Thalasserry. The movie, based on the popular novel by writer Punathil Kunjabdullah, also features Indrans and Anoop Chandran.
Jagathy Sreekumar, popularly know as Jagathy, is one of the veterans of the industry in the august company of veterans like Sukumari and K.P.A.C. Lalitha, who can handle any kind of role with ease. He has completed more than 1100 Malayalam films in a career spanning over 25 years. Today, very few films are made in Malayalam without him. Jagathy Sreekumar has won the Kerala State Best Supporting Actor twice, in 1991 and 2002.
M.P. Sukumaran Nair, former assistant of renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishanan, has also won several State awards for his works including Aparahnam, Kazhakam, Dhrishtaantham and Sayanam, which were critically acclaimed. His last film, Dhrishtaantham, has been selected at the Kolkata International Film Festival under the 'Indian Panorama' section. Dhrishtaantham won the State Government’s award (2007) for the best feature film.
