The 13th Trivandrum International Film Festival (TIFF), organised by Chalachithra Film Society with an array of 40 acclaimed international films from 24 countries, will be held from August 1 to 7 at Kala Bhavan and Tagore Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram.
The inaugural film is Tied Hands by Israeli director Dan Wolman, the chief guest of the festival. All his nine films will be screened in the festival.
The other important films in the World Cinema section include Departed by Martin Scorsese, Istvan Szabo's Relatives, Rod Hardy's December Boys, the South African film Ttsotsi by Gavin Hood, the Dutch movie Waiter by Alex Ven Warmerdam, and David Crorenberg's Oscar winning Eastern Promises.
From Asian cinema, there are films such as Wet Dreams from Iran by Pouran Derakhshandeh, the hit Pakistani film Khuda Ke Liye and the Chinese period drama Curse of the Golden Flower by Zhang Yimou. Indian cinema is also represented with the likes of Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Naalu Pennungal, Taare Zameen Par, Jab We Met and Jodhaa Akbar.
There will be five screenings a day at Kala Bhavan starting at 8.45 a.m. Indian films are to be screened at the Tagore Theatre at 5.30 p.m. from August 2 onwards and will be open to the public. Delegate cards will be issued from the TIFF 2008 festival office at Kala Bhavan starting from July 30.
