Shyam Prasad’s Ore Kadal has added another award to its already long list. The movie has been chosen for the John Abraham award for best feature film for 2008 by the Federation of Film Societies of India. Ore Kadal, starring Mammootty and Meera Jasmine in the lead, is based on the illicit relation between a drunkard economist and a housewife.
Debutante director Babu Thiruvalla’s Thaniye received special mention from the committee. Thaniye tells the story of an old sick man who stays alone in a bungalow and his relationship with a home nurse. Nedumudi Venu played the role of the lonely old man and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy played the role of a home nurse.
Both Ore Kadal and Thaniye were recently chosen for the Atlas Film Critics' Award for Best Film. Ore Kadal, produced by Vindhyan, was screened in several film festivals and bagged several awards, including the NEPTAC award and the FEPRESCI award for best film at the IFFK, 2007.
