Review
A whiff of fresh air. Shyamaprasad's Akale is a classic movie with wonderful performances by Sheela, Prithiviraj and Geethu. The directorial touch is very much evident in the film and every moment has S Kumar's brilliant cinematography. Yet another person who deserves praise is Kuku for her costume designing. A combination of best talents including M Jaychandran whose dependency on poetry to make music makes it a wholesome film.
Sheela is Margaret Evans the Anglo Indian lady who once lived a life of richness and joy is now living in her old memories. Her son Prithiviraj is a dreamer who dreams of good and wishes to indulge in poetry and painting but is locked up in a factory job to support his family. Geethu is the daughter an introvert and mentally handicapped. A family with only a list of sufferings, in comes Tom George who Prithivi feels might me attracted to his sister but tom is already engaged. The mental fears of Geethu increases and finally lands her up in a mental hospital where she dies. Prithivi who cannot decide whether live for himself or for the family finally arrives at a decision. The whole story of the family comes in a flashback narrated by Prithivi.
Geethu, Sheela and the film will pick up a few state and national awards.
