Rajesh and Faizal, former associates of director Priyadarsan have a refreshingly fresh movie in Malabar Wedding, a very good movie in the comedy genre within the confines of commercial Malayalam movies.

This comedy is based on the popular Malabar custom called 'Sora Kalyanam' where friends play pranks on the bride and groom that could turn irritating and humiliating. Writer Ramesh Madhavan and the directors have taken this custom as the background and created comedy, songs, tension and twists out of it.

Manukuttan (Indrajit) is the chief inspired prank leader conducting Sora Kalyanams in his village Ilanjikara in Malabar area. Everybody who was his victim, like Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Mamookoya, Biju Kuttan and others, are waiting to give him back a taste of his own medicine.

Manukuttan meets Smitha (Gopika) a girl who grew up in Kolkata and has returned to the village with her parents. He predictably falls in love and they marry. It is now time for his friends and enemies to give him an 'unforgettable Sora Kalyanam' that turns horrible. It wrecks his marriage on the wedding night itself. Smita is found with her wrists slashed as she tries to commit suicide after feeling totally humiliated!

This film comes as breath of fresh air among all the other assembly-line productions. Rajesh and Faisal have brought fresh and interesting treatment to the movie. But the film's major drawback is that post-interval, it drags; also, the climax is the weakest link.

Indrajit is just right as Manukuttan; his flair for comedy and intensity have been brought out ably by the directors; Gopika has a teeny-weeny role; Mammookoya, Sooraj and others give you a bellyful of laughs.

This is one wedding that is really pleasurable to attend.
